DIGITAL DIVIDE
This is the first of a bi-annual lecture series, intended as a forum for collective exploration of issues that are of timely and critical interest to the design community. The purpose of this and other lecture series to follow is to expose us collectively to recent trends in design and to engender among us examination, discussion, and debate of issues facing design today.
The theme for the Spring 2000 lecture series is the digital divide. Our three speakers will variously address the impact of the digital media on the design profession. The digital technology, per se, will not be the focus of discussion. Rather, at issue will be the visual revolution of the past decade of which the digital technology has been the catalyst. Our speakers will variously explore with us the role of the digital media as a complementary creative tool in the design process, its potential as a virtual terrain, and its impact as a media that demands a different and particular mode of reception from its audience.
